169-Point Inspection

If a pre-owned vehicle is less than five years old and has less than 80,000 actual miles on the odometer, then it's eligible to undergo our demanding 169-point Quality Check inspection process. On Ford F-Series trucks and E-Series vans, only vehicles up through the 350 series are eligible for certification; 450 series and higher are ineligible. Anything found to be below standards or deficient is repaired or replaced using only genuine Motorcraft® replacement parts. Only vehicles that pass this rigorous inspection become Ford Certified Pre-Owned vehicles.

The 169-point inspection is divided into the following four areas: Amenities, Quality, Chasis, and Powertrain.

Quality

Quality

This general category covers everything related to the appearance of a vehicle, specifically the important areas of fit and finish such as sheet metal and upholstery. The following points are checked:

  1. Ensure that the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on vehicle and paperwork match
  2. Recalls (OASIS) performed (including software updates for hybrid)
  3. Scheduled maintenance performed
  4. No visible damage or misalignment of body panels, paint not mismatched or poor
  5. Bumpers/fascia not visibly damaged, misaligned or poor paint
  6. Doors, hood, decklid/tailgate not visibly damaged; paint not mismatched or poor
  7. Grill, trim and roof rack components free from visible damage; attached
  8. Windshield, side, rear windows free from visible cracks, visible pits, wiper marks
  9. Vehicle History Report Obtained
  10. Mirrors, hinge not cracked, visibly damaged
  11. Replace wiper blades
  12. Carpet (check for rust under it due to flood damage)
  13. Floor mats (clean, no stains or damage)
  14. Door trim, panels attached
  15. Folding seats operate (manual/power), fold-down latches operate
  16. Headliner (clean, no stains or damage)
  17. Upholstery clean; not stained, worn, cut, cracked
  18. Luggage compartment carpet, trim, cargo net; clean, not damaged
  19. No abnormal wind noise
  20. No visible damage to frame, signs of past repairs, no visible abnormal tire wear
  21. Fuel lines, fuel tank, hoses and couplings not leaking
  22. Wheels/finish free from damage, run-out normal
  23. Wheel covers, center caps, free from damage
  24. Deployable running boards operate, free from damage
  25. Sunroof/moonroof operates in all modes
  26. Convertible top operates; not damaged; cover, rear window not damaged
  27. Doors, hood, deck lid, tailgate aligned properly (check jambs for over spray from repairs)
  28. Overall no evidence of flood, hail, fire or any major damage
  29. Interior odor free
  30. Vehicle has emissions sticker (applicable States)
